Assassin's Creed: Ancien Egypt

A few years ago, Ashraf Ismail (Director of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag) had said that he wanted to explore and use as the setting for the series, the ancient Egypt. With the publication of Unity and Rogue and the upcoming Syndicate, this idea has not been the most talked about. I understand that for developers and historians of Ubisoft would be very difficult to rebuild cities like Thebes, of which we have so little information and that would have less historical figures to include in the plot, but I wouldn’t completely abandon the idea. If they really do not intend to develop a triple-A game, they would at least consider the possibility of developing a platform game such as Assassin's Creed Chronicles.

I think you can go very creative with this. It would be a waste (just like I think with chronicles) to make it into a platform, because you can't really be creative with buildings and such. I think it is a really cool concept to make a full game of ancien Egypt.

Ancient Eygypt would be a blast, and is one of my dream locations for the series. I also would like to visit Japan during the Shogunate, the Old West in America would be amazing and a First Civ. storyline could be epic.

Ancient japan would be interesting but they could botch the whole thing if they don't do shinobi well. It could end up like an 80s movie.

Egypt is an indispensable destination for Assassin's Creed would it be only for the link with the first civilization. I think they put more and more clues about a game in Egypt. So, I guess we gonna have it pretty soon (maybe 2017)

I think it could be very cool in Spain, with the Catholic Monarchs or near to this period, it'll be closer to the style and the esthetic of the first ones in the Renaissance, with implication on art too. There is a lot of history, characters and this place could be awesome for the story.

Ancient might be a really cool setting for the franchise , but i think that most of players are now used to handle the new weapons (pistols, revolvers etc.) . An intresting setting would be the Greek Revolution in 1821 , when the Greeks struggled for their independence against the Ottoman Turks. It would be great to discover the Aegean islands, because the naval combat and navigation system could return as the revolution would have never succeded without the Navy. Furthermore, the players might be able to travel in Athens, Nafplio and other major cities during that period.

This is not so bad idea, but i think Assassin's Creed need more real historical moments. Ancient Egypt is cool, but like you write you have so little information about it and it's not cool. We all like Assassin's Creed series with many historical moments, figures and i think we need more reality in game like parkour and combats in Assassin's Creed Unity.

I fell like if AC was to explore Egypt following Napoleon there as Arno (or as an Egyptian Assassin trying to stop him from regaining the Apple from San Denis) would make the most sense with the characters and information we have now. The French Occupation of Egypt is just such and interesting historical period it would be interesting to see what Ubi would do with it.

definitely would be a fantastic idea to bring into the series...there is many historical events that can be pulled and create an epic story line....im from Australia so I would also love to see a game created when the english first landed in 1770 (them being templars) and the originals (Aboriginals being assasins) and watch the evolution of how Australia became the country it is today with an assassin story line and twist....now in my eyes that would be cool!

  • JALewis800

I think this is quite a cool idea, The navigation possibilities are very wide, although the lack of in-depth history is there, it still would be cool. And there are some in-depth noted history surrounding Ancient Egypt, just not a lot. What I think would be a good idea is New Zealand, or Shogunate Japan (Even though there has been the similar game Assassin's Creed: Chronicles). New Zealand just has a very wide variety of History, there's myths and legends. Although the Maori in New Zealand have some similarities to Native Americans, they're still quite different. Yes, I *am* a New Zealander, but I've only just realised how much history we have, it's crazy, The battle between Maori tribes, the brutality of the fighting, jeez, even the Environment. (Huge Forests, Maori Villages, English Buildings, even some sort of Naval Combat could be achieved, as well as huge battles, wouldn't it be cool to stumble upon a battle between two tribes as an Assassin? And the year, 1769 or such.

Not a Chronicle - this deserves a full-blown game. Given the complexity of the cities the team has already given us digitally, Ancient Egypt can't be that difficult. Apart from the reign of Akhenaten, their artistic and architectural styles didn't change much over the centuries. Same for their clothes etc. Or just pick a Dynasty (18th would be my fave) and stick with it. You have ready made enemies like the Hyksos, Hittites, or the Mitanni. Trade with countries around the Med. Warrior kings. A priesthood that eventually rivals the kings in power. What's not to love??

  • Aristonicus87

Small amount of historical data has both pluses and minuses so. Restore the city (except for the famous monuments of culture or a good description) is almost not real. Since about the history of Ancient Egypt is much less information than about the French bourgeois revolution, then you have the opportunity to develop a fantastic story of the Assassins.

There are a fair few time periods that could be used especailly when you work into it the Assassins named on the tombs in AC2. Part of the problem with coming too close to modern times is the hand gun. I love having to sneak around and get into the right place to use the assassinate with the blade and I feel that would be lost if we had something closer to the modern handgun.

Reactions to these Ideas: 1) Ancient Egypt: Great choice, Especially focus on the struggle between Upper Egypt & Lower Egypt. On which King or Queen controlled the whole of Egypt, and how an Assassin helped the country of Egypt achieve its liberation and peace. 2) Greece & Macedonia: How a minority country like Macedonia was at its peak with Alexander The Great as an Emperor, but he mysteriously died, how..?? Hmm..must be the handiwork of an Assassin. I can link these two as Ancient Egypt being the first part and Alexanders rise being the second part as he descends to Egypt and captures it and names a city after him as Alexandria..its upto the Assassin from Egypt to end Alexander the Great.........Just some ideas

Although I think that this concept is a great idea, I feel the opportunity has possibly been missed. But as with all flexible stories (non more flexible than Assassin's Creed) I to believe it isn't lost entirely. The question is, how and where do you introduce it into the timeline? From Unity (1790's) to Syndicate (1860's) there's a jump of almost 100 years so maybe the timeline introduction isn't possible, but the 'Artifacts' angle is a real possibility. Let's face it, Ancient Egypt, Greece & Rome all have many artifacts from the Military to Religion so the idea still has alot of potential. It certainly gets my vote.

This would be an interesting concept; especially if it were to be taken back around the time of Hatshepsut; who ruled as regent over her nephew and then usurped his throne. I'm curious as to why the franchise has never considered the Roman republic. Forty years prior to Julius Caesar's death, Spartacus overran Italy with the Third Servile War. It is said that he was wrongly convicted and sent to the ludus in Capua as punishment (gladiator training was considered the worst punishment). It would be interesting to see how the Assassins and the Templars existed prior to the Crusades.

I would love to See Assassin's creed divide into 18th dynasty Egypt, this could be good coz it was a time when when Pharaoh Akhenaten, merged the polytheistic religion into a monotheistic religion, making atenism or basically the worship of the sundisc. However most egyptians hated the idea and eventually over threw him and Tutankhamen came into power.

I think that this idea could become a great game ( especially if they use the traditional Assassin's Creed formula) . This concept could be fun to explore and to play around with the idea of a Pre-Christ setting. This would create some problems with the lore and the mechanics as many of the weapons and systems that are routinely used in the Assassins Creed series have not been invented yet, such as the hidden blades. This might be solved by not including it as a whole game, or just having a small proportion to the game dedicated to Ancient Egypt. Such as a game dedicated to the lives of of the assassins whose statues are in the sanctuary in Monteriggioni in AC 2. this would be a interesting game idea as it would give the player accesses to a large amount of Lore and new experiences throughout different times in history. such as Amunet was an ancient Egyptian who assassinated Cleopatra.

I like this from a storytelling perspective as it could have a great take on the building of the pyramids - all tied up with the pieces of Eden/ancients etc.

Having a new game in Egypt would be amazing. This country has outstanding history, full of riches, mystery, and precise and beautiful architecture. Ubisoft recently mentioned that they are not including Multiplayer in "Syndicate", because they wanted to make the singleplayer better. They said that wanted to have better and more beautiful cities. So Egypt would be quite interesting, especially it's history: pharaohs, slavery and assassin's fighting for freedom and liberty against the Templars which are controlling the high kings, those that want to have access to the high seas and trade

There are so many possibilities with this franchise, i cant wait for what is next in AC, i've been a fan since day one! Im still waiting for a setting in Greece or even ancient Greece !! :P Though ancient Egypt sounds perfect as well.

YES PLEASE!!! I would love an AC game (more the one even considering for how long pharos have ruled Egypt) set in Ancient Egypt.

I agree it would be a perfect back drop for an Assassin's Creed Game. There is so much History and Mystery to that time period,

In assassins creed 2, there is a statue of an assassin who killed Cleopatra. That is a good idea for the game

Omg...I'd love this. Imagine this: after the death of Pharaoh Hatshepsut her successor is raiding her temple to remove her name and face from the walls and statues of the temple. You have to sneak in to find a hidden chamber which contains a Piece of Eden...

I personaly would like to have AC in egypt because, they were the top nation of there time. there are tons of mythology content the can use. There for you can for example add Eden artifacts to the pharaos. They could explain the hidden glyphs that Desmond wrote on the wall at Abstego as well Etzio found all over Italy.

Well if you play the phoenix intro in AC Unity you can see an Ankh as piece of eden, wich is the egyptian symbol for life, and inBrotherhood you need a token from an egyptian assasin to get Altair costume, so i guess it won't be that difficult to create an AC based on an Egyptian AC Brotherhood

      ChriskenVdC

The glyphs at Abstergo aren't from Desmond but they are made by Subject 16, whom is seen in AC 3 if i'm not wrong

I love the idea, along with the wild west that is on here as well, but certainly I think Egypt would be a great background for the creed, just why was it not done earlier :P
