We interviewed the cover artists for the brand-new series, and here’s what they had to say about their work!
Q: How did you come to work on the Assassin’s Creed comic cover?
A: Doubleleaf – I’ve been a fan of AC from the first game and have drawn tons of fan art since then. One day I got an email from one of the editors at Titan Comics, who had been in discussions with the community manager of Assassin’s Creed and had suggested me as a possible artist for one of the covers.
Q: What does it mean to you to create artwork for this Assassin’s Creed comic?
A: Jose Holder – It’s surreal! I never dreamed this was possible. Assassin’s Creed has always been an incredible franchise with a strong, passionate fan base that’s about to grow leaps and bounds with the release of the film this year. Having the chance to play visually and build on existing Assassin’s Creed lore – and its incredible cast of comic book characters – is a lot of fun!
Q: Can you take us through how you interpreted the characters from the Assassin's Creed universe in your comic cover art? What did you feel was key to include in the cover art?
A: Sunsetagain – I felt the key was conveying emotion. Even though I was trying to make a dynamic, cool cover for the characters, their inner emotions were the core I kept searching for and revealing: Journeys such as Charlotte’s growth from a new recruit to a true warrior, the conflicts and bonds between characters.
Q: Can you briefly take us through your art process?
A: Alex Ronald – I often use 3D models in my work to quickly try out compositions and camera angles. From this I will do a very quick pencil rough for approval. Once that's given, I paint up the cover using a range of digital paint programs.
Q: What are your thoughts on the new series and the Phoenix Project coming to a crescendo in the comics?
A: Jimbo Salgado – It brings new life and imagination to the series. I think it’s awesome bringing the whole series into a complete package for the fans to delve deeper into the world of Assassin’s Creed and enjoy.
